What is a Christian?

A Christian is someone who has made a choice to be a follower of Jesus Christ.

People become Christians for all kinds of reasons but here is a list of things that are NOT required.

  • Perfection
Christians accept that they do things wrong, just like everyone else does. They have also learned that God is very forgiving.
  • Understand Everything
Christians know that there is always something new to learn about God and the world. They also appreciate that there are many things they thought they understood that they actually don’t. Perfect understanding has never been a requirement for being a follower of Jesus.
  • Doubtless
Although Christians aspire to having perfect faith they know that very few (if any) have it. Most Christians have some doubts about things from time to time but they know that God is understanding.

In fact if you read the gospels in the New Testament of the bible you will discover that the first followers of Jesus – the disciples – suffered with all of these things and yet Jesus describes them as friends.

Perhaps one of the most wonderful things about being a Christian is that you have a hope when everything seems hopeless. Knowing that God really does love you can make such a difference – especially when life is tough.

The basics of the Christian faith are contained within the bible and the early church Creeds. If you would like to know more then please contact one of the local Ministers who will be happy to help you.
